Al-Zaidi in his inauguration speech: We will work to consolidate security and protect the country’s sovereignty
Iraq’s new Prime Minister, Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, pledged on Saturday to launch a “comprehensive reform, economic and financial program,” and to “work to consolidate security and stability, protect Iraq’s sovereignty, and strengthen Arab, regional, and international relations on the basis of mutual respect.”
In a speech delivered during his inauguration ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office, Al-Zaidi said: “The nation has entrusted me with a great responsibility and a historic duty, and the Council of Representatives has granted confidence to our government at a delicate moment in Iraq’s history.” He added that this “requires us to work seriously for the present and future of Iraqis,” according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The Iraqi Prime Minister thanked the Council of Representatives for granting him confidence. He also thanked the leaders of the Coordination Framework, which includes most of the Shiite political forces, as well as the political forces for ensuring the success of the government formation process.
Al-Zaidi noted that “the next phase must be one of genuine partnership and overcoming differences,” pledging to work with “sincerity and genuine will to face the challenges.”
Economic Challenges and Service Crises
He added: “Iraq has long suffered from economic and service-related challenges and crises, despite the wealth it possesses. Our government places among its priorities the launch of a comprehensive reform, economic and financial program.”
He explained that his government’s program “aims to build a strong, diversified and sustainable national economy. We will work toward an economy that does not depend on a single resource, but is based on activating other sectors.”
He continued: “We will work to protect public funds and combat corruption in all its forms,” pointing out that “corruption is no longer merely an administrative defect, but has become an obstacle to development and a delay in the progress of the state.”
He went on to say: “Providing job opportunities for young people and reducing unemployment are among the government’s top priorities, through the launch of productive and development projects. We will work to encourage investment and support the private sector so that it becomes a key partner in building the national economy, while providing a fair environment and equitable distribution of opportunities among the people of Iraq, away from discrimination and favoritism.”
He added: “We will support the education sector exceptionally by developing curricula and rehabilitating schools and universities. We will support the educational community to advance academic and scientific institutions. We will also proceed with practical plans to develop the health sector and improve the level of medical services, and we will work to develop hospitals and health centers and provide medicines in all cities and rural areas.”
Consolidating Security and Protecting Sovereignty
He continued: “We will launch strategic projects in all service and infrastructure fields. The government will be a state of institutions and law that listens to the voice of citizens, and we will work to consolidate security and stability and protect Iraq’s sovereignty.”
He added: “We will work to strengthen our Arab, regional and international relations on the basis of mutual respect. Iraq today deserves to rise, and its people deserve to live in dignity.”
The Iraqi Prime Minister expressed his “deep gratitude to the supreme religious authority for its wise positions and its role in preserving social peace,” and voiced his appreciation for all religious and national institutions and figures from all Iraqi components.
He concluded his speech by saying that “the path of reform may be difficult, but it is not impossible when intentions unite and efforts are sincere. We will be among you and with you, and we will work for every Iraqi household and for every young person seeking a job opportunity.”
Earlier on Saturday, Iraq’s new Prime Minister officially assumed his duties at the Government Palace in Baghdad.
The Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement that “the ceremony for Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi to officially assume his duties as head of government and commander-in-chief of the armed forces was held at the Government Palace in the capital, Baghdad, in the presence of former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani,” according to the Iraqi News Agency.
The statement added that “the ceremony included a review of the guard of honor, representing the various branches of our armed forces. The Iraqi national anthem was also played, and artillery fired a ceremonial salute.”

الزيدي في خطاب التنصيب: سنعمل على ترسيخ الأمن وحماية سيادة البلاد
تعهد رئيس الوزراء العراقي الجديد علي فالح الزيدي، السبت، بإطلاق “برنامج إصلاحي واقتصادي ومالي شامل”، و”العمل على ترسيخ الأمن والاستقرار، وحماية سيادة العراق، وتعزيز العلاقات العربية والإقليمية والدولية على أساس الاحترام المتبادل”.
وقال الزيدي في كلمة له خلال مراسم تنصيبه في رئاسة الوزراء: “حملني الوطن أمانة عظيمة ومسؤولية تاريخية، ومجلس النواب منح الثقة لحكومتنا في لحظة دقيقة من تاريخ العراق”، مضيفاً أنه “يتطلب منا العمل الجاد من أجل حاضر العراقيين ومستقبلهم”، حسبما أوردت وكالة الأنباء العراقية “واع”.
وتقدم رئيس الوزراء العراقي بالشكر لمجلس النواب لمنحه هذه الثقة، كما شكر قادة “الإطار التنسيقي” (الذي يضم غالبية القوى السياسية الشيعية)، والقوى السياسية لإنجاح مسار تشكيل الحكومة.
وأشار الزيدي، إلى أن “المرحلة المقبلة يجب أن تكون مرحلة شراكة حقيقية وتجاوز للخلافات”، متعهداً بـ”العمل المخلص والإرادة الصادقة بمواجهة التحديات”.
تحديات اقتصادية وأزمات خدمية
وأضاف: “عانى العراق طويلاً من التحديات والأزمات الاقتصادية والخدمية، بالرغم مما يمتلكه من ثروات، وحكومتنا تضع في أولوياتها لإطلاق برنامج إصلاحي واقتصادي ومالي شامل”.
وأوضح أن برنامج حكومته “يهدف إلى بناء اقتصاد وطني قوي ومتنوع ومستدام، وسنعمل على اقتصاد لا يعتمد على مورد واحد بل يقوم على تنشيط القطاعات الأخرى”.
وتابع: “سنعمل على حماية المال العام ومحاربة الفساد بكل أشكاله”، مشيراً إلى أن “الفساد لم يعد مجرد خللاً إدارياً، بل أصبح عائقاً أمام التنمية وتأخير مسيرة الدولة”.
ومضى قائلاً: “توفير فرص عمل للشباب وتقليص البطالة، في مقدمة اهتمام الحكومة عبر إطلاق مشاريع إنتاجية وتنموية، وسنعمل على تشجيع الاستثمار ودعم القطاع الخاص ليكون شريكاً أساسياً في بناء الاقتصاد الوطني، وتوفير بيئة عادلة والتوزيع المنصف للفرص بين أبناء العراق بعيداً عن التمييز والمحسوبية”.
وأردف: “سندعم قطاع التعليم بشكل استثنائي من خلال تطوير المناهج، وتأهيل المدارس والجامعات، سندعم الأسرة التعليمية للارتقاء بالمؤسسات الأكاديمية والعلمية. وسنمضي بخطط عملية للنهوض بالقطاع الصحي وتحسين مستوى الخدمات الطبية، وسنعمل على تطوير المستشفيات والمراكز الصحية وتوفير الأدوية في جميع المدن والأرياف”.
ترسيخ الأمن وحماية السيادة
واستطرد: “سنضع مشاريع استراتيجية في جميع المجالات الخدمية والبنى التحتية، وستكون الحكومة دولة مؤسسات وقانون، وتستمع لصوت المواطن، وسنعمل على ترسيخ الأمن والاستقرار وحماية سيادة العراق”.
وزاد: “سنعمل على تعزيز علاقتنا العربية والإقليمية والدولية على أساس الاحترام المتبادل، والعراق يستحق اليوم أن ينهض، وأن يعيش أبنائه بكرامة”.
وأعرب رئيس الوزراء العراقي، عن “بالغ امتنانه للمرجعية الدينية العليا لمواقفها الحكيمة ودورها في الحفاظ على السلم المجتمعي، وتقديره لجميع المؤسسات والرموز الدينية والوطنية من أبناء المكونات العراقية كافة”.
واختتم، كلمته بالقول، إن “طريق الإصلاح قد يكون صعباً، لكنه ليس مستحيلاً حين تتوحد النوايا وتخلص الجهود، وسنكون بينكم ومعكم، ونعمل لكل بيت عراقي ولكل شاب يبحث عن فرصة عمل”.
وفي وقت سابق، السبت، تسلم رئيس الوزراء العراقي الجديد، مهامّه رسمياً في القصر الحكومي ببغداد.
وذكر المكتب الإعلامي لرئيس مجلس الوزراء في بيان، أنه “جرت في القصر الحكومي بالعاصمة بغداد، مراسيم تسلم رئيس مجلس الوزراء علي فالح الزيدي مهامّه رسمياً، رئيساً للحكومة وقائداً عاماً للقوات المسلحة، بحضور رئيس مجلس الوزراء السابق محمد شياع السوداني”، بحسب وكالة الأنباء العراقية.
وتابع، أن “المراسيم شهدت استعراض حرس الشرف الذي يمثل مختلف صنوف قواتنا المسلحة، كما جرى عزف السلام الجمهوري الوطني العراقي، وأطلقت المدفعية إطلاقات التحية”.
