PM Mohammed S. Al-Sudani’s Key Initiatives in Energy, Cybersecurity and National Development

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, during his visit to London, discussed with Shell CEO Wael Sawan, strengthening partnerships in oil, gas, and petrochemicals. Shell expressed a strong interest in developing associated gas and free gas fields, aligning with Iraq’s recent licensing efforts. The company holds a 44% stake in Basra Gas Company, with Iraq’s South Gas Company owning 51% and Mitsubishi holding 5%.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani officially opened Iraq’s Cybersecurity Center, operating under the Ministry of Interior, underscoring its vital role for the nation. He stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity protocols and providing security forces with cutting-edge technology to establish Iraq as a regional leader in this critical domain.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani held discussions with Crescent Petroleum and government ministers to enhance gas investment efforts. He instructed the Ministry of Electricity to secure 100 million cubic feet of gas for power stations and urged the Ministry of Oil to address challenges in Crescent’s Khashm Al-Ahmar oil field project, which was awarded in February 2023 during the fifth energy licensing round.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated significant oil projects in Baiji, including new production units at Al-Siniyah Refinery with a capacity of 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) and a third unit at Salah al-Din Refinery with a capacity of 70,000 bpd. The event also marked the launch of facilities for gasoline enhancement, wastewater treatment, and kerosene hydrogenation. Future plans aim to establish Baiji as Iraq’s largest oil industrial city, with ongoing studies for petrochemical and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) projects.
