Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The World Bank confirmed on Wednesday that the electronic payment systems in Iraq are among the best in the region.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, received a delegation from the World Bank headed by the Director of the World Bank’s office in Iraq, Richard Abdulnour, where they discussed strategies to enhance cooperation between the CBI and the World Bank, according to a statement released by the CBI.
The two sides talked about e-payment projects, financial inclusion, and reform programs aiming to enhance the stability and development of Iraq’s financial sector.
The two parties discussed the World Bank’s support to provide advice in establishing a bank that will be concerned with financing small projects in Iraq, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
The World Bank delegation commended the measures taken by the CBI to enable financial transfers to various sectors of the Iraqi economy, pointing out that the country has some of the best software and electronic payment infrastructure in the region.
